If you’ve ever visited Lake Nojiri in Nagano, you might already know how peaceful and charming the lakeside atmosphere can be. And right along the shore sits EN BAKERY 39!, a bakery so well-loved that it can’t exactly be called a “hidden gem,” but it absolutely deserves a spot on your itinerary.
I’d wanted to visit this bakery for such a long time.
Every time I saw photos online — the beautiful pastries, the warm wooden exterior, the cozy vibe — I felt even more drawn to it. And when I finally managed to visit, it exceeded every expectation.
Each item is crafted with incredible care, displayed almost like artwork.
The melon pan, especially, completely won me over: crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and perfectly sweet. Of course, everything else I tried was equally delightful.
But what makes the visit truly special is the whole experience.
After picking up your bread, you can take a short walk to the lakeside park, where you can enjoy your treats while gazing out over Lake Nojiri. The combination of fresh air, calm water, and good bread is something really unique to this area.
